Postnatal Depression is an illness that can affect around 1 in 7 mums, with the risk being 20% higher if a mum has previously suffered with depression prior to pregnancy or 40% higher if they have experienced Antenatal Depression/Anxiety.
There are many symptoms for Postnatal Depression, including (but not restricted to) lack of interest in baby, negative or guilty thoughts, feelings of inadequacy, isolating yourself from your support network. It is important to seek support from your GP who will be able to advise you on further steps. Alongside GP services, Support Groups are often beneficial to mums.
